about

"Guajira" is the name for a kind of Cuban country music, a particular rhythm among the many rhythms developed on that island. GUAJIRA DEER PARK is a rhythm developed by Ray Seraphim Porter in Deer Park, Texas in the 1980's. (You can hear this rhythm on tracks 2, 4, 6 and the beginning of 7 on this album.) Gary Heidt composed these 7 songs based on the divinatory quatrains of Guan Yin from the sixteenth century (or prior) which can be found in Buddhist temples worldwide. GUAJIRA DEER PARK is also the name of the band Heidt assembled to play these pieces.
