There's a film of Cassandra and I playing horns in the Astor Place subway in New York around 1998-- dressed more or less like homeless crazy people. When we started "seeing" each other in 2009 we also started collaborating a lot, in music and in theater. I bought her a baritone ukelele and she learned to play it and started writing a lot of good songs. It was inevitable that we would try to create a kind of country-goth duo. We wanted to have our beats pressed to wax and played on a big Victrola we would drag to gigs. Alas it was not to be. We recorded a demo and played one showcase. We got a lot of good feedback but playing with the big band, Fist of Kindness, was so much fun and kept us from getting into too much direct conflict with each other about artistic choices.
